Promotional Package

I have chosen to research into The Conjuring's marketing background to allow me to pick inspirations for my own promotional package for the trailer i am creating. I have chosen this particular film due to it being based upon the same paranormal topic which i am interested basing my trailer on.

Trailers - Throughout the process of The Conjuring being made, the producers unleashed leaks of the movie by releasing various trailers to excite and inform the audience about the movie itself allowing them to know what particular genre it is focused upon. Within these trailers producers enticed the audience by publishing the most intense and jumpy scenes to interest them in the movie. The producers have to be careful to not leak to much detail within the film nevertheless, they created various trailers due to age restrictions and being able to show appropriate scenes on family screens. Trailers are the most important and beneficial approach when promoting my trailer, they are easily accessed now we have web 2.0 to watch various videos on smart phones and up to date technologies. Having the fortunate facilities in today's society has allowed us to upload trailers across the internet world, such as; Youtube, Official Sites and many more video orientated sites. This allows the audience to find the trailers easily and quickly.

Social Network Sites - In todays society social networking sites are hitting a peak with the new web 2.0 becoming a new love in the technology industry. Social sites such as; Twitter and Facebook allow the film production and audience interact with one another on a personal level by allowing the viewers feedback and opinions and additionally having the producers leak trailers of the movie to encourage the audience to go and view the movie. On Twitter The Conjuring allows the audience to follow them to keep up to date daily with each step they are doing such as; filming days, marketing days, competitions etc. These tweets influences the audience to get in touch and keep up to date with the film and get excited for the release of the movie. As the same with Facebook, it allows the viewers to gain interaction with the producers and keep up to date and understand what is going on with the film and
promotional days. Each social networking site has thousands of likes, comments and followers which shows its a useful promotional use to the film industry, this is due to it being easy to get involved no sign ups, just a click of button to get their feed of information.

Posters - There are various posters used to promote The Conjuring before and after the release day, these posters have helped set the genre of the film due to the images and the font which have been used within the content of each poster. Nevertheless, i believe that the company didn't focus their promotional package on using posters to influence the audience due to only finding three main posters. Each poster has a scene or location as the main image to allow the viewers to understand what the genre and story could be about. The genre is obvious due to having the audience understand it is a horror - this is because this particular genre may not appeal to them therefore, would not be a good choice of film to see. Each poster is presented differently due to it being published in various places such as; long rectangular poster would be seen on bus stops and buses themselves and then square sized posters would be seen either on social networking sites or out side cinemas and billboards. The variation of posters colour and size makes the movie more interesting and intriguing towards the audience which is why producers enjoy making more than a couple of posters - nevertheless with The Conjuring not taking this approach i believe they became more successful within the Social Network sites due to the amount of followers and likes the ad achieved. Each poster tells you different parts of the story, one image is of a young girl on a old fashioned rocking chair with a old battered doll facing the audience - this suggests to the audience the doll could be an big impact to the narrative? also gives away the genre of the film due to the elements of a horror being portrayed in one simple image. Another poster is of the location in which is seen on the trailers of an old haunted house with a widow like tree with a piece of rope hanging lonely on  high branch giving the illusion that the place is dangerous and not safe? Another reason why they used this particular image is they are for-warning death to be involved? or the rope is a significant part of the story line? These questions get thought about when audiences see the posters which is why i would be using this particular route for my promotional package as well as my trailer.

Choice of Genre

I have chosen Horror as my focused genre on my trailer due to it being an exciting process to show and experience various software and programs, additionally to experiment a variety of  after affects and camera angles say compared to another genre.

Repertoire of Elements-
Good vs Evil
Vulnerability
Mystery
Supernatural
Dark Lighting
Unknown
Fears

Each of theses elements will be key within my trailer due to the particular style i will be approaching. The style i will be mainly focusing upon is paranormal, this being a personal preference due to being a believer in after life. Nevertheless, i believe this style of horror is a successful process of creating a blockbuster movie.

Print Analysis Reflection

After analysing Paranormal Activity and You're Next i have been giving inspiration throughout each element they used within their posters. Each element within their media helped them advertise their film in different ways, i very much liked the look of the You're Next poster due to the horror portration it gave such as; the title written in blood and the dribbling runs as an added effect. I believe this helps portray the genre alot clearer than compared to some horror films, which is needed due to the audience understanding a brief description of the film. Neverthelees, within the Paranormal Activity poster i liked how there were rhetorical questions asked to the readers and admirers, these question i believe look clever and they create a shudder of fright when reading due to thinking into depth with them. Especially, with the film being set within a family household and the question being "whats living in your house?" it makes the human mind wonder and you slowly create a fear to which there could be something in your house. I will be using this technique in my poster, due to it giving off a proffesional image aswell as being seen to be scary. When creating my poster i will make sure to take into consideration my image due to this being a large proportion of my poster, this will be my main attraction to my film trailer so getting the correct shot will increase my viewers. I have many ideas that i have in mind to use as my poster, therefore experimenting each images will needed to be done to see which is the most eye catching and attracting.

Create a survey on the prefered Poster.

Trailer Analysis Reflection

Whilst researching the horror style trailers i have realized that i will need to concentrate thoroughly and effectively on various shots to create a successful and horrifying trailer. My main reason for the trailer is to outline the main plots of the narrative therefore i must think cleverly and obvious to get the perfect trailer. To gain a successful trailer i must concentrate on the important elements such as the editing and camera skills.
The Editing skills is a main priority that i will need to focus on due to getting the correct paste for the various plots  whether that will involve increasing the paste throughout the middle of the trailer to create a more intense atmosphere in the audience or creating a slow antagonising wait of suspense to unravel the various plots which i screen. Using these various speeds of viewing allows the audience to embrace the chase of excitement or get to grips with the location, genre and characters. Having these elements involved within the trailer will create a professional and smart trailer. It will also build an easy and understanding narrative for the audience to follow and get goosebumps over.
There are similar aspects to the editing skills to the camera skills when considering the paste of the trailer. This is due to the shots being identical to the paste of the trailer, i will need to consider this thoroughly so i create a continuos trailer. I will mix and match my framings to gain a unique and clever film, using long shots and panning will help me create intensifying scenes of my settings, additionally using close ups on my characters face will help interact with the audience and portray their fears and emotions clearly on screen.

Reflection on Genre Research

As i have been doing my main research for my Horror genre i have been able to learn various codes and conventions used within the genre of film which i intend to use thoroughly and correctly to create a successful trailer. Learning these aspects have helped me understand and gain a larger knowledge of the genre which will come helpful when producing my trailer. There are many aspects to consider when producing a trailer, especially when portraying the genre of the film;

The main location of my trailer would be focused within a family household or local country fields where i can play with various shots to get creepy effects. Due to focusing on a paranormal trailer i am fortunate to film within my own/friends living space - which allows me to not worry about budget fees. I am wanting to explore my local town to use different locations which can collaborate with a typical nuclear family household so i can gain different effects when editing.
As for my characters, i am wanting to include at least 3/4 cast member with an additional pet dog due to this creating a stereotypical nuclear family - which is my main aim within producing the trailer. I dont have a secure idea if i would prefer to make a teenage sleepover plot - this potentially could become unsuccessful or not filling the horror criteria to its best which can lead to it looking unprofessional and not appealing to watch whereas if i include an older generation of characters it can portray as a more serious matter to the narrative?
When concerning my costume and props, i am fortunate to allow my characters to wear their own clothes which adds to the realism of the plot. Having their own costumes allows them to portray their own character and persona on set which helps the audience interact with them. As with props, i wont need essential needs such as; weapons and fake blood, nevertheless, i will need to use props such as young plastic toys/dolls, swing set etc. I could potentially use a main prop as a marketing aspect which could become recognizable and known for my movie - such as using a swing set for my poster, magazine cover etc.
Having a successful soundtrack is probably a main element in creating a successful horror trailer, however due to my narrative, quietness is key when wanting to scare my audience due to them not expecting the following scene after. I will use a erry sound behind to create more of an atmosphere and heighten the tension whist watching the trailer. I will include effects such as crashes and door slams due to these sounds creating more of a fright for my audience, additionally, i will include heightened sounds of usual quiet sounds such as heartbeats and breathing to create tension.

Marketing Research Reflection

Looking back on my previous research i have realized the importance of integrating various forms of media through the use of a unique selling propositions. If wanting a successful block buster creating an effective Marketing Campaign is a necessity and therefor i must create a unique selling proposition - this will allow my campaign to produce a sense of identity towards my target audience therefore giving the film a name for itself and becoming a recognizable interest. The reason in which creating a identity for the film will help increase profit opportunities is due to viewers linking various media advertising throughout their towns and cities and knowing instantly which film is being released.

To a achieve the brand identity i wish to succeed i will be using the color scheme, logo and minor aspects of the main character to my advantage. I will select all three features within various media forms; such as my magazine cover, competitions, social networks, posters, and of course my trailer. Having the choice of media forms in today's society has helped producers in their Marketing Campaign which is why i am taking full advantage of each individual form allowing me to link story lines between one another, nevertheless, not leaking to much information and keeping the audience on edge to find out more closer to the time of the release. This technique will keep the viewers intrigued and create more of a hype for the blockbuster weekend. I can use this for my genre which I'm interested in doing - horror. I can use realistic dramatic emotion and use my creative skills to present each of my forms of media. To take full advantage of my media and creating a successful hype and link with each individual form i will work creatively and more fully on the mise-en-scene due to majority of my media forms being visual, i dont want to give away the narrative in a obvious matter, nevertheless, i want to add props and costumes withing backgrounds to link with the story line and get my target audience asking questions, what is the relation between them? its set in a dark forest? etc. I will using photography from my actual trailer to help me with my visual media to set the scene and character which will give a snipit of extra information of the film - however, i will add twists within each form to knock each audience off the wrong route so they're in for a surprise when viewing the actual film. The photography will allow the viewers to understand and know what the genre and narrative is based upon. As well as the Man of Steel Marketing Campaign, i will also be using continuity through out my campaign due to it being an important aspect to the process of making a successful Marketing Campaign, to allow this to happen i will use the same color scheme, props and logo on each media product.

Marketing Campaign Research

Having a Marketing Campaign is an important feature when involving a big hit film, such as Man of Steel. The main concept of having a dramatic marketing scheme is to draw as many viewers in as possible to watch the film. This is done in verity forms of media, these media forms help create a obvious running theme so audiences know and understand what the film will feature. This also creates a professional and recognizable trait for the film and film company itself.

The production element and presentation of research, planning and evaluation maybe individual or group work. Where candidates have worked within a group the evidence for assessment may be present collectively but centers will still assess candidates on a individual basis for their contribution to aspects of the work, from planning, research and production to evaluation.
